AND THE WINNER IS…
● THE LESSON“ by producer Yochanan Kredo, Eze Sakson, Guy Jacoel, Yossi Uzrad, Jasmine TV and writer Deakla Keydar won in the category BEST DRAMA SERIES.
The Jury says: “THE LESSON is such an amazing series, which allows us to get so close to its characters that they become real. It was like we were watching a documentary, where every single word was not delivered by actors but rather the lives of real people. Additionally the camera work and music elevated the whole story in an incredible and artistic way. The series showed us it had a clear vision which amazingly tackled the political conflict out of a classroom and reflects our social media zeitgeist.”
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES 2022: Maya Landsmann in “THE LESSON“ (KAN 11).
● “REEPERBAHN – SPECIAL UNIT 65” by the Brother Beetz Filmproduktion wins BEST DOCU-SERIES 2022.
The jury says: “Reeperbahn – Special Unit 65” by the Brother Beetz Filmproduction managed to secure a prize for BEST DOCU-Series. According to the Jury Verdict they have rarely seen the 70/80’s come alive like in this series. The perfectly curated footage, music and interviews wrapped in a fantastic narrative arc makes for quite possibly the most “porno” documentary of 2022!”
This year out of the 128 pitches for the “Pitch your Pilot” Contest 2022 four were selected through careful examination. They were handpicked by members of the jury and the festival’s selection committee. The PYP JURY consisting of Dr. Andreas Bareiss (EVP Business Affairs & Operations Gaumont Germany), Anna Rohde-Seyfried (Content Editor BetaFilm) and the Head of Development of Gaumont Germany, Rainer Marquass and Anna Hintzen (Studiocanal UK). They chose the satirical sitcom BELLEVUE by Florian Frei and Daniel Hartung, with a special mention going to the drama “IN HER CAR” by ukrainian author and filmmaker Eugen Tunick.
Statement of the jury: “BELLEVUE convinced with a lighthearted take on the phenomenon of populism, amusing relevance and a fair amount of smirk potential. We are looking forward to a satirical sitcom from the heart of German politics and from the heart of Berlin. And we are looking forward to many glimpses behind the scenes of the Office of the German Federal President, in particular Department 11: responsible not only for German artists’ support, but also for submissions & petitions, condolences & congratulations. In this respect very fitting: Congratulations!”
A special mention and accompanying support from Gaumont & BetaFilm goes to a project that could not be more relevant in these difficult times: IN HER CAR by Ukrainian author and filmmaker Eugen Tunick, who traveled from Ukraine just for the pitch. The jury loved the powerful concept and admired not only Tunick’s creativity but also his courage behind IN HER CAR! Gaumont and Beta Film will, they announced at the award ceremony, use their contacts and networks in Germany and internationally to support the author in realizing the project and to move the project forward. Now!
